Host Success Kit

If you're just getting started, you don't need to build the perfect Sniffspot overnight.

Many successful hosts start with a few essentials and use the amenities list as a roadmap for future improvements.

Before purchasing anything new, consider using items you already own, borrowing from friends or family, shopping second-hand, checking local Buy Nothing groups, or finding comparable products from your preferred retailer.

The items below are examples of affordable amenities that many successful hosts provide. You do not need to purchase these exact products. Many hosts use second-hand, homemade, or comparable alternatives.

Spot entrance sign

Many guests are visiting private property for the first time and may feel uncertain when they arrive.

A sign helps guests:

  • Confirm they are in the right place
  • Feel welcome
  • Begin their visit with confidence

Signs do not need to be expensive. Many successful hosts use garden flags, handmade signs, painted boards, or other simple markers.

Pet waste station

A simple pet waste station helps guests clean up after their dogs and keeps your spot looking its best.

Many guests appreciate having waste bags readily available, even if they bring their own supplies.

A basic waste station may include:

Trash can

A covered trash can gives guests a convenient place to dispose of used waste bags and other trash.

Poop bag dispenser

A wall-mounted or post-mounted dispenser helps ensure bags are easy to find when guests need them.

Extra poop bags

Keeping extra rolls available helps prevent guests from being caught unprepared.

Water bowl

Fresh water is one of the most important amenities you can offer.

Providing a dedicated water bowl makes it easy for guests to keep their dogs hydrated while they play. Consider placing the bowl near a hose or other water source so it can be easily refilled between visits.

Some hosts keep multiple bowls available and provide a designated container for used bowls so they can be cleaned and sanitized between visits.

Dog towel

A dog towel is one of the simplest amenities you can provide.

Guests appreciate having a way to dry off wet dogs, wipe muddy paws, or clean up after a rainy visit. Towels are especially useful at spots with water features, trails, long grass, or muddy conditions.

Start with the basics

You do not need to provide every amenity at once.

Many successful hosts begin with:

  • A welcome sign
  • A pet waste station
  • Fresh drinking water
  • A towel for muddy or wet dogs

These simple amenities help guests feel welcome, keep your spot clean, and create a positive first impression.
