Playmate Finder

Playmate Finder is a new beta feature in the Sniffspot mobile app that helps dog parents connect with compatible local dogs for social playdates. You can access Playmate Finder through the Playmates tab in the Sniffspot mobile app, where Sniffspot Members can:

  • browse nearby dog profiles,
  • like or pass on dogs,
  • receive playmate requests,
  • view matches, and
  • chat with other dog parents to coordinate meetups and playdates.

Many dog guardians struggle to find safe, controlled opportunities for dogs to meet one another. Our goal with Playmate Finder is to help make dog introductions safer by encouraging thoughtful introductions, recommending consultation with qualified dog trainers or behaviorists whenever possible, and promoting established best practices for introducing unfamiliar dogs.

Sniffspots are especially well-suited for Playmate Finder meetups because private dog parks provide a safer, more controlled environment for first introductions and off-leash play.

Who Playmate Finder is for

Playmate Finder is designed for friendly, social dogs that enjoy meeting unfamiliar dogs. It is not intended for dogs that are reactive toward people or other dogs or that may pose a safety risk to people or other dogs.

How Playmate Finder works

  • Browse nearby dog profiles.
  • Like dogs that seem like a good fit or pass on dogs that aren't.
  • If another dog parent likes your dog, you'll receive a playmate request by email and/or push notification, depending on your notification settings.
  • A playmate request becomes a match when you also like their dog.
  • Once you've matched, you can start chatting in the Playmates tab to coordinate a meetup or playdate.
  • If you decide to meet at a Sniffspot, book through the standard booking flow.

Why Sniffspots work well for Playmate Finder

Sniffspots can be especially helpful for dog introductions because they offer:

  • Neutral territory for both dogs
  • Private spaces with fewer distractions
  • Safe and secure environments
  • More controlled settings than crowded public dog parks
  • Flexible options for different dog sizes and play styles

For many dog parents, meeting at a private Sniffspot feels more comfortable and predictable than meeting at a traditional dog park or local park.

Hosts play an important role by providing safe, secure, private environments where dogs and their humans can meet more comfortably.

Membership and booking credits

Playmate Finder is available exclusively to Sniffspot Members through the Sniffspot mobile app.

Members receive booking credits as part of their membership, and those credits can be used toward eligible Sniffspot bookings—including playdates arranged through Playmate Finder.

Playmate Finder does not change how bookings work. Guests still book spots like normal, and hosts continue using their existing pricing, availability, and rules.

While many Playmate Finder users may choose to meet at a Sniffspot, Playmate Finder is a separate feature. Dog guardians ultimately decide where to meet.

For some dog parents, Playmate Finder may provide an additional reason to become Sniffspot Members by combining private Sniffspot visits with opportunities for social play and introductions.

Important beta information

Because Playmate Finder is currently in beta:

  • Access is rolling out gradually to eligible members.
  • Some users may not see the Playmates tab yet.
  • The number of available dogs may vary significantly by area.
  • Features and functionality may continue evolving during testing.
  • Playmate Finder is currently only available in the Sniffspot mobile app on iOS and Android.

We're closely monitoring feedback from guests, hosts, and trainers throughout the beta and will continue refining Playmate Finder to improve safety and the overall experience.

Getting started with Playmate Finder

For guests

The first time you open Playmate Finder, you'll complete a brief setup that may include adding a dog profile, agreeing to the Playmate Finder rules, enabling location, and activating a Membership if needed.

To use Playmate Finder, you'll need:

  • An active Sniffspot Membership
  • At least one dog profile on your account

Dog profiles are included in Playmate Finder by default. You can hide your dog from Playmate Finder at any time through your dog's profile settings.

We strongly recommend working with a qualified dog trainer or behaviorist whenever possible when introducing unfamiliar dogs. You can find one through our trainer directory or our partner The Pet Professional Guild (PPG) and review our guide to safe dog introductions before meeting another dog.

For hosts

Hosts do not need to take any special action to participate in Playmate Finder.

There is:

  • No separate host setup
  • No Playmate-specific listing
  • No new booking flow
  • No changes to host payouts or policies

Hosts provide a safe, private place for dogs to meet, but they are not expected to supervise introductions or determine whether two dogs are a good match.

Guests simply use Playmate Finder to connect with each other and may choose to book a Sniffspot for their meetup.

How Playmate Finder may impact bookings

As Playmate Finder grows, hosts may see:

  • More bookings from local members
  • More repeat visits
  • Increased social and playdate-related bookings
  • More multi-dog visits coordinated through the app

Safety and responsibilities

Playmate Finder helps facilitate connections between dog parents, but guests remain responsible for evaluating compatibility, supervising their dogs, and deciding whether to meet.

Guests are responsible for:

  • Confirming vaccine status before meeting
  • Following safe dog introduction practices
  • Supervising their dogs at all times
  • Complying with Sniffspot's community standards

Hosts are not responsible for:

  • Screening dogs for compatibility
  • Supervising introductions
  • Managing playdates between guests

Standard Sniffspot rules, waivers, and host liability protections continue to apply to eligible bookings made through the normal Sniffspot booking flow.

Common questions

Q: Which dogs will I see in Playmate Finder?

A: Playmate Finder generally shows eligible dogs near your location based on your shared or approximate location. During the beta, the number of dogs available may vary by location as more members gain access.

Q: Where do I find playmate requests?

A: If another dog parent likes your dog, you'll receive an email and/or push notification (depending on your notification settings). Opening the notification takes you to the Playmates tab, where you can continue browsing dogs and potentially create a match if you're interested in that dog too.

Q: Where do I find my Playmate matches?

A: When both dog parents like each other's dogs, you'll find your matches in the Playmates tab of the Sniffspot mobile app, where you can start chatting to coordinate a meetup.

Q: Why did I receive a playmate request but not a match?

A: A playmate request means another dog parent has expressed interest in meeting your dog. It becomes a match only if you also like their dog.

Q: Why can't I see Playmate Finder?

A: Playmate Finder is rolling out gradually during beta, so not all users have access yet.

Q: Why aren't there many dogs in my area?

A: Because Playmate Finder is still in beta, availability varies by location as the community grows.

Q: Is Playmate Finder available on desktop?

A: No. Playmate Finder is currently only available in the Sniffspot mobile app.

Q: Are hosts responsible for supervising playdates?

A: No. Guests remain responsible for supervising their dogs and evaluating compatibility before meeting.

Q: Is my exact location shared with other users?

A: No. Other users may see your general distance from them, but your exact address is not shared through Playmate Finder.

Q: Can I hide my dog from Playmate Finder?

A: Yes. You can hide your dog from Playmate Finder through your dog's profile settings in the Sniffspot app.

Q: What should I do before a first playdate?

A: Before meeting another dog for the first time, we recommend:

  • Consulting a qualified dog trainer or behaviorist whenever possible.
  • Following expert guidance on dog introductions.
  • Confirming vaccine status with the other dog parent.
  • Choosing a neutral meeting location.
  • Introducing dogs carefully.
  • Monitoring body language.
  • Keeping dogs supervised at all times.
