How to interpret my reviews? (for hosts)

This is an article for hosts to interpret reviews from guests.

As a host, you can view your reviews on the web here or in your host account on the mobile app.

You can read more about how to make the most of your host reviews here.

Guests can provide the following pieces of information with each review:

  • Fencing security
  • Cleanliness
  • Distractions (dogs / other domestic animals / people)
  • Unexpected encounters with dogs or people

The star rating is posted publicly to your spot.

Fencing security

For fully fenced spots, guests can say whether the fencing was secure enough to contain their dogs. They can answer this question yes, no or not sure.

The aggregate percent of guests that say the fencing was secure enough to contain their dogs (yes / (yes + no)) is displayed publicly in the fencing section of your spot detail page. We only include the most recent 100 responses in this calculation.

Note: if your spot is marked as fully fenced, but less than 90% of guests say the fencing was secure enough to contain their dogs, your spot may be subject to an alert for potential guests. We recommend either making sure your spot fencing is secure or changing their fencing to partially fenced.

Cleanliness

We give guests the opportunity to report whether the spot was as clean as they expected during this visit.

Distractions (dogs / other domestic animals / people)

As you likely know, many guests use Sniffspot to be able to manage or avoid distractions that are often found in public places. These distractions include dogs, other domestic animals and people. Guests have the opportunity to say whether they saw or heard any dogs within 50 ft of the spot during their visit. They can answer each question yes, no or not sure.

The aggregate percent of guests that say the they saw or heard distractions (yes / (yes + no)) is displayed publicly in the distractions section of your spot detail page. We only include the most recent 100 responses in this calculation.

Unexpected encounters with dogs or people

If guests say that they saw or heard dogs or people during their visit, we ask if they had any unexpected encounters with dogs or people either in the spot or at the entrance to the spot. It is essential that guests NOT have unexpected encounters, because this could lead to safety issues (for instance, if a guest's dog is not dog friendly and encounters your dogs unexpected in the spot). We require for spots to be free of dogs, other domestic animals or people during visits and for hosts to not meet guest dogs unless specifically arranged with that guest in advance.

This information is not reported publicly, but our customer care team reviews reports of unexpected encounters and could require hosts to remedy safety issues in order to continue hosting. We recommend proactively reviewing any reports of unexpected encounters and ensuring that any safety issues are remedied.
