As a host, do I need to be home, meet or greet guests when they visit?

As a host, you do not need to be home, meet or greet guests when they visit.

The easiest way to run your sniff spot is so that you don't need to meet the guests for them to use your spot. Keep an open calendar that is not dependent on your schedule. Provide accurate and complete access instructions (and signs near your spot!) so the guest can just come visit without needing to knock on your door or get more information from you in person. Of course we understand that for some spots with especially complex access a meeting is required the first time. If you need to meet a guest, follow these important guidelines.

The default for Sniffspot visits is that hosts do not spend time with guests during their visits except, if needed, for a brief introduction to the space. Of course, if you and the guest arrange to meet and spend time together during a visit, that is just fine. However, the default is that hosts do not spend time with guests during visits. Some of our top hosts choose to meet briefly with first time guests to give them an orientation of the space. Some top hosts do not meet guests at all whether they are home or not home.

If you do plan to meet with guests on their first visit or otherwise, make sure that your guest knows this in advance. IMPORTANT SAFETY RULE: never meet guest dogs unless you specifically arrange in advance with that guest. Some guests have dogs that do not react well to being approached by people they don't know and it's important to provide a comfortable setting for your guests.
