What is the difference between Booking and Request to Book?

The default way to book a sniff spot is through Booking, but some hosts only allow Request to Book. Guests prefer to visit spots set to Booking; spots set to Booking get 1.7x more visits than spots set to Request to Book. As of 3/31/20, all new hosts are set to Booking and no hosts can opt into Request to Book.

Booking sniff spots are marked with a lightning icon in the upper right hand corner of their tile on the search page and the spot detail page will show a "Book" button with a lightning icon. Request to Book sniff spots will show a "Request to book" button on the spot detail page.

With Booking the guest selects a time and date they would like to visit a sniff spot, books that sniff spot, instantly receives the information they need to visit the sniff spot and can go visit that sniff spot at their requested time. Hosts are notified of Bookings, but do not need to respond. When set to Booking, host calendars and advanced notice are still enforced, so guests can only book at available times.

With Request to Book the guest selects a time and date they would like to visit a sniff spot, requests to book that sniff spot, the host confirms the visit and provides the information the guest needs to visit the sniff spot and can go visit that sniff spot at their requested time. Note: for Request to Book listings, the guest must wait to receive a confirmation from the host before they attempt to visit.
